Educational Activities Of The Foundation - Sugar Institute
For academic year 2012-13 we have admitted 15 Students from Rural area and 15 Students as sponsored candidates from four Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd., Units viz. Kokatnur, Munnoli, Raibag and Kolavi Units.

The final examination will be held by February / March 2013 and thereafter their placement in the SRSL group of factories and surrounding Sugar factories shall be made.

The next batch shall be taken in the month of February 2013 and its admission notice shall be projected in the local news paper in the month of January 2013.
 
  About School  
 
Genesis
Since the Sugar and Allied industries are mostly situated at remote rural  areas with the cause of sugar cane availability, it requires essentially the rural development. The surrounding areas are thickly populated mainly by cane growers and avenue for future prospect proved to be grim in terms of job seekers with educational background. To address  this national issue of rural employment,  Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd., having 7 number of sugar plants of its own and also considering 47 number of Sugar plants operating in North Karnataka has come forward to establish a Sugar Institute  to provide training facility to the rural youths for availing employment opportunities in sugar and allied industries.   In the process the Sugar Institute for Rural Development has been designed for its existence by Shree Renuka  Institute for Rural Development & Research.
 
In such endeavor, the affiliations of the proposed courses  shall be routed through Department of Employment and Training, Bangalore. The functioning of the institute started on January 2012, and awaiting for its own premises to be built up near future.
 
Building
Sugar Tech Laboratory Computer Room
 
Its location is only 14kms away from Athani Township, which is again 70kms from Miraj Railway station and 65 km away from Bijapur. It is under process of finalization and shall start its construction shortly. It has 2 Acre of land as earmarked. It is designed with spacious class rooms, research / student laboratories of various disciplines. It will have its Auditorium, Conference hall, Hostel and Sports complex as additional attraction for the students. Big spacious Library is also under plan for students and staff Resident complex for the staff of the Institute will surround the main building.
 
The Charter
The main functions of the institute are as under;
  To provide short term vocational courses for Operator category as man power to Sugar & Allied Industries.
  To provide full time courses as man power for Sugar & Allied Industries as future programme.
  To provide refresher courses for all category of staff belongs to Sugar & Allied Industries.
 
To arrange special lectures as on going programme to keep pace with the modern development by eminent Scientist, Technologists and Engineers.
 
To take up research activities on relevant problems of Sugar & Allied Industries. all these functions will be carried out in an integrated manner, each one helping and influencing the other. These activities shall make the Institute an unique organization in coming years.
 
  Infrastructure

The course content has been designed for both the proposed disciplines in such way that the students will be taught the theoretical part for six months with practical & then the next six months they will be placed in Modern Sugar Factory for Implant Training. The Sugar Factory consists of various Unit Operations viz. Milling, Evaporation, Crystallization, Centrifugation, Bagging etc. with various Pumping System, Filtration System etc. for which specialization on each Unit shall be provided during Implant training.
 
The Institute building is coming up, attached to a big 10,000 Tons crushing capacity per day modern Sugar Factory owned by the same group i.e Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd. wherein the students will be placed for Implant Training.
 
The students will be provided with a golden opportunity to gain true practical knowledge of the Sugar Factory during its Crushing period as well as its overhauling aspects during off season. Such dual practical knowledge backed up with theoretical knowledge shall prepare the pass outs a complete Technologist / Engineer at Supervisory Category with avowed objective of their placements.

Organizational Set up of the Institute
           »   Principal is the over all in charge of the various day to day activities of Institute’s functioning.
           »   The Institute has the Administrative Man power to discharge its functions.
The above organizational set up is under the guidance of Management.
 
Faculty
Teaching staff is not on permanent basis and shall be on rotational basis as and when required.
 
  » 6 Nos. of Manufacturing Chemist with qualification of BSc. ANSI / VSI (Sugar Technology) – a Post graduate diploma degree holder who will be from 7 Sugar plants of Shree Renuka Sugar Ltd & shall take Sugar Technology classes on rotational basis on deputation terms.
     
  » 6 Nos. of shift Engineers with qualification B.Tech ANSI / VSI (Sugar Engineering) – a Post graduate diploma degree holder who will be from 7 Sugar plants of Shree Renuka Sugar Ltd & shall take Sugar Technology classes on rotational basis on deputation terms.
     
  » Besides these special Lectures shall be arranged by Eminent Scientists / Technologist / Engineers of Sugar field & shall be arranged during the theoretical session of the courses.
 
  Training Details  
 
Courses
The institute provides facilities for training the student in all discipline i.e Sugar Technology, Sugar Engineering. The future plan under the courses shall be Industrial Fermentation and Alcohol Technology, Agriculture, Instrumentation, Pollution etc. All these Courses shall be governed by STATE COUNCIL FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING (SCVT) under the aegis of Directorate of Employment & Training, Bangaluru (Karnataka State).
 
As per the decision of the Management to start the Institute, only sponsored candidates   from surrounding Sugar  Factories  shall be invited as per their need of the plant with the object to provide  placement avenue of the pass outs. Besides this candidate from rural areas (open candidates) shall also be considered for admission.

Implant Training
After completion of the Theoretical portion it is compulsory to under take Implant Training by each students. This Training will start from 1st November of the year & the Trainee will be put in general shift under the strict vigil of shift incharge. During this Training the trainee will experience the overhauling of the equipments, running of the complete plant from Milling to Bagging & to finish with Sales. This will also include the intermediate cleaning of the factory which also is a part of vital Training. After completion of such Training in the month of April a final Training Report has to be submitted by the students. The overall marking which include theory as well as evaluation of Report will make the student pass through the course with 50% minimum attaining marks in Theory as well as Implant Training separately.

Attendance
The students are required strictly to maintain 80% of attendance. The decision of the Institute authority shall be final in this regard.
 
Placement
The Sugar Institute has its own Placement Cell which caters the needs of the pass out Operators. Campus interviews shall be organized during final stage of the Training for making appropriate avenue provision of  the pass outs.
 
  General Instructions  
 
 
All rights for change of rules and regulations, Institute fees, including number of seats etc, provided in this prospectus are reserved with the management of Shree Renuka Institute for Rural Development & Research and these can be changed any time without making any correspondence in this regard.
 
Before applying for admission, candidate should ensure that they possess the minimum qualifications required for the courses and if they are applying for the particular category they posses the proper certificate for that category complete in every respect as per the desired norms failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled.
 
Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidate, hence no recommendation should be forwarded to any official of the institute.
 
All candidates will have to make their own arrangement of boarding and lodging for written test or interview and no T.A etc is admissible during the time of admission.
 
Candidates are required to bring all original certificate and testimonials at the time of interview for admission.
 
Tentative scheme of study is available in the Prospectus which shows the number of classes allotted for the courses.
 
The General / Nominated candidates will be treated as Day scholar & the sponsored candidates will stay as Hostler.
